Scholarship Program – Frequently Asked Questions
CUC Isaac – Iberdrola Australia Scholarship Program
Bringing degrees closer to regional, rural and remote Australia.
Below are answers to the questions we’re asked most often about the scholarship program. If your question isn’t covered here, please get in touch with CUC Isaac — we’re always happy to help.
1. Who can apply for the scholarship?
Applicants must:
- Be registered with CUC Isaac
- Live in the Isaac region
- Be enrolled in an accredited tertiary qualification (Certificate I or above)
- Demonstrate commitment to their studies
Both new and continuing students are welcome to apply.
2. How much is the scholarship?
The value of the scholarship may vary each year depending on the available funding and number of scholarships awarded. The scholarship is intended to assist with study-related costs such as:
- Course materials
- Technology
- Internet or study equipment
- Travel for study requirements
- Other education-related expenses
3. How long does the scholarship last?
Scholarships are generally awarded for a 12-month period, but they may be structured to support shorter study periods if appropriate. The scholarship program operates annually, meaning students may reapply in future years if they remain eligible.
4. Are scholarships paid in instalments?
Yes. In most cases, scholarships will be paid in two instalments:
- First instalment: at the start of the scholarship period
- Second instalment: approximately six months later
Payment of the second instalment may be subject to confirmation that the student remains enrolled in their course.
5. Can the scholarship support courses shorter than 12 months?
Yes. If a course runs for six months or less, the scholarship may be structured as a single payment or adjusted to reflect the duration of the course.
6. What happens if I change courses?
If you change courses but remain enrolled in an eligible tertiary qualification, you should notify CUC Isaac. The scholarship may continue if the new course meets the eligibility criteria. Each situation will be reviewed individually.
7. What happens if I defer my studies?
If you defer your studies for a period of time, you must inform CUC Isaac as soon as possible. Depending on the circumstances:
- The scholarship may be paused
- Remaining payments may be delayed
- The scholarship may be reassessed
Each situation will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
8. What happens if I withdraw from my course?
If you withdraw from your course, you must notify CUC Isaac. If the scholarship has already been partially paid:
- You may be allowed to retain funds already used for legitimate study expenses.
- Any future instalments may not be paid.
In most circumstances, students will not be required to repay funds already received, unless the scholarship was obtained through false or misleading information.
9. Do I have to pay the scholarship back?
Scholarships are intended as financial support rather than a loan, so repayment is generally not required. However, repayment may be requested if:
- The information provided in the application was false or misleading
- The scholarship conditions were significantly breached
10. Will receiving a scholarship affect my government payments or student support?
Scholarships may be considered income depending on individual circumstances. Students should seek advice from Services Australia or their financial advisor if they are concerned about how the scholarship may affect their payments.
11. Do scholarship recipients need to provide updates?
Yes. Recipients may be asked to provide a short progress update approximately six months after receiving the scholarship. This helps demonstrate the impact of the program.
12. Will my personal information remain confidential?
Yes. All applications will be treated confidentially and assessed by the Scholarship Assessment Panel. Only information required for the selection process will be shared with panel members.
13. Will scholarship recipients be asked to participate in media or promotion?
Recipients may be invited to share their student story or participate in promotional activities. Participation is completely optional and will only occur with the student’s consent.
14. Can I apply again in future years?
Yes. Students may apply again in future scholarship rounds if they remain eligible and funding is available. Receiving a scholarship in one year does not guarantee funding in future years.
15. Who decides who receives the scholarship?
Applications are assessed by the CUC Isaac Scholarship Assessment Panel, which reviews all applications against the published selection criteria. Final recommendations are endorsed through CUC Isaac governance processes.
